Already bought a dash cam and now need it installed? Before arranging an Auto Tools Mart appointment in Reisterstown or requesting mobile service in Maryland, confirm that the camera, cables and power accessories form a complete, compatible system. A box labelled “front and rear” does not necessarily include the equipment needed for parking recording.
Send the exact model before booking
Provide your vehicle’s year, make, model and body style, plus the full camera model and channel configuration. A brand name alone is not enough: two products from the same manufacturer may use different rear-camera connectors, hardwire kits or mounting arrangements.
Photograph the box label, every included camera, the power lead, rear-camera cable and any separately purchased accessories. Include a photo of the area around the rear-view mirror and rear window. These details help identify missing parts before the vehicle is taken apart.

Separate driving power from parking power
The included vehicle charger may be sufficient for driving recording when connected to a suitable outlet. Parking operation raises additional questions: whether that outlet remains powered, how the camera detects the parked state and how the power source is protected. Do not assume that “parking mode supported” means every required component is in the box.
If you have bought a hardwire kit or dedicated dash cam battery, send its exact model too. The installer needs to assess the complete connection path. Similar-looking plugs do not establish compatibility, and an old rear-camera cable should not automatically be reused with a replacement system.
For the broader options, read our hardwired versus plug-in guide and parking-mode planning guide.
Use this equipment checklist
- Main camera, mount and the correct mounting adhesive or supplied static film.
- Every secondary camera and its manufacturer-specified connecting cable.
- Driving charger or the agreed compatible hardwire kit.
- Dedicated battery and required input/output accessories, if parking power is part of the plan.
- A supported endurance memory card.
- Any model-specific polarizing filter or remote you want fitted.
- Your phone with the correct camera app ready, if app setup is requested.
Keep small adapters and unused cables together. Do not buy extra fuse adapters based only on a photo from a different vehicle. Vehicle-specific selection belongs in the installation assessment.
Agree on the work and the price
A useful quote identifies which cameras will be mounted, the intended power source, the cable route to assess, any missing accessories and the requested handover checks. Explain whether the camera is new, previously installed, intermittent or being moved from another vehicle. Fault diagnosis and installation are different tasks and may require different time.
Ask how customer-supplied hardware faults are handled and which workmanship terms apply. Do not assume installation labor replaces the camera manufacturer’s product support. Keep your purchase receipt and record any existing errors before the appointment.

Prepare the vehicle and check the handover
Remove belongings that block access to the relevant cabin and luggage areas. Share any aftermarket tint, previous wiring changes or known trim damage. Agree on the appointment location and whether a suitable mobile work area is available; do not assume every parking spot is appropriate.
At handover, request playback of saved files from each intended camera. Confirm framing and time settings, then learn how to save an important clip. If parking mode is included, clarify its selected behavior and limits. A lit screen alone is not evidence that all channels save usable video.
Customer-supplied dash cam questions
Can I arrange installation before buying accessories?
Request a compatibility review first. It can help avoid ordering a power kit or extension that does not suit the selected camera and vehicle.
Does a rear camera always require extra work?
It adds a cable route and another mounting position. The amount of work depends on the vehicle and whether the camera is inside the glass or externally mounted.
